About Noor

Noor was born in Islamabad (Isloo) Pakistan, and at the tender age of eight, moved to Canada with her parents, sister, and brother. After spending seven years in Canada, and seeing an addition of a brother to her family, she moved back to Pakistan, and completed her high school there. She got accepted into McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, where she pursued her Bachelors of Commerce and graduated with Honors in 2013. She has aspirations to follow in her father's footsteps and become a Chartered Accountant (CPA) insha'Allah.

Noor has always wanted a pet tiger, though Zubair is worried about the logistics (and legality...)

About Zubair

Zubair was born in and raised in New Jersey, and stayed put until he was fourteen, at which point he moved two whole miles! After completing high school, Zubair was accepted into Lehigh University, where he considered pursuing a mechanical engineering degree for a semester or two, but was easily convinced to pursue a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science by his uncle. He was one of eight graduates from his program in 2010, after which he ran into the corporate world as a Software Engineer, first working where the color television was invented, and now disrupting the television industry.

Zubair has developed an interest in photography, but Noor gets frustrated by how long it takes him to take a picture (YALLAAAAA ZUBAIR!)

Our Engagement

Noor and Zubair's engagement was unique -  not too many people can say they had family and friends around the world witness their engagement!

As both their families were in separate continents, having a proper engagement ceremony would have involved a few plane tickets, and long lines at the airport.

Zubair, being the techie/geek/nerd that he is, suggested to use Skype. No one was really sure how he was going to do it, but knew that he would deliver on his promises.

With Noor visiting her family in Medina, Saudi Arabia, over questionable hotel WIFI, and Zubair with his family in New Jersey, with the power of technology (and sheer willpower), both families were brought together digitally on February 24th, 2013.

Zubair was also able to live broadcast the engagement over the internet so all of Noor's and Zubair's distant family and friends could watch.

They virtually exchanged rings, with Noor's aunt placing her ring on her finger and Zubair's mother putting his ring on. Yes, Zubair also received a ring because that's only fair! If Noor has to wear one, so shall Zubair.
